It is Not Too Late for Success
I have
talked to many people who will tell me they had a dream of greatness but,
"now it is too late". They
feel they are too old to be pursuing success and gave up the dream for an empty
life of dissatisfaction. I have heard
this sad story from people as old as 75 to as young as 25. Do you feel that the opportunity for success
has passed you by? Allow me to share a
few names with you:
Stan
Lee: Cartoonist who created Marvel
Comics started at age 39
Gary
Heavin: Founder of the Curves Fitness
Centers, started at age 40
Vera
Wang: Fashion designer started at age 40
Henry
Ford: Created the Model T at age 45
Julia
Child: Wrote her first cookbook at age 50
Ray
Kroc: Founded the McDonald's chain at
age 52
Laura
Ingalls Wilder: Started writing the "Little House" series at age 65
Harland
Sanders: Started
Kentucky Fried Chicken at age 62
Grandma
Moses: Started
painting at age 78
This list could go on and on
with the names of people who pursued their dreams later in life. For some,
it was that they did not discover what they waited
till later. For many, it took that long to really get things going. If I may
allow me to add one more name to this list of late bloomers:
John Patrick
Hickey: Published his first book at age 51.
"The time for action is now.
It's never too late to do something."
- Antoine de Saint-Exupery
(1900-1944)
Writer
C.S. Lewis once said, "It
is never too late to set a new goal or dream a new dream." I believe this with all my heart. In fact, I believe that some of the greatest
achievements yet to happen in the world will be by those who are considered
"seniors". We have a
population that is growing older, however, are in the best shape of any generation
before them. People are living longer
and are far more productive later in life.
What is the dream that you have
held on to for so long now? What is the
thing that if you could start over you would go after with all you have in
you? Well, you cannot start your life
over, but you can start living it now.
That dream is still there for you to achieve. Let nothing stand in your way. After all, what do you have to lose? Nothing is what. No matter what, you know you have tried and
that you have done what everyone, even you, said could not be done.
It really does not matter if you
are 16 or 60 and beyond. That dream you
have had all your life is in fact who you were created to be. That is why it has always been there. It is not just part of you, it is you. So, if this is what you were meant to be all
along, how can you fail? All you need is
to decide, create a plan, have some courage and off you go. As long as you have breath, it is never too
late to achieve a dream.
