Right on Time

"For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."

Romans 5:6

Have you ever questioned God's timing? I know I have. And I know I am not alone. People throughout history have repeatedly asked the question, "Where is God when we need Him." We pray, we believe, and we expect, but He doesn't show up for whatever reason. So much of human history is spent waiting on God.

The fact is that God has it all planned out, and He is never late and is always in perfect time. We do not understand His timetable, but when we take the time to study His word and look at what He says about it, we see it does make sense.

Think of the coming of Christ to die for our sins. The fall of humankind into sin happened back with Adam and Eve. God promised to send a Savior to redeem us from our sins at that time. He could have sent Him right then. After all, Jesus was there from the start, but God waited 3974 years, six months, and ten days (who's counting?) before Christ was born. Yet we read in Galatians 4:4, "But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law." "The fullness of time," it says. Right on time, not a moment too soon or too late.

As you read through Scripture, you will repeatedly reference things being on time. God is eternal and not bound by time, yet He is far more aware of time than we could ever be. He knows the beginning from the end, and therefore He can see just when the perfect moment is to intervene in the affairs of humans. His timing is perfect.

Now, let's bring this closer to home. If God, in His wisdom and great love, knows the perfect time for things happening in the world, how much more does He know and care about the events in your life? When you start to see that God is always at work in your life, you begin to recognize His hand in many of the events you have experienced.

I am so encouraged to know that although I am now in my 70s, God still has more in store for me. Not because I missed it before or that the timing was not right, but because His timing is perfect, and it has always been in His plan for me. Your life is not a roll of the dice, He has a plan, and every day moves you in that plan. You will see it at just the right moment.
