How Will You Be Remembered?
Go to the
library and find a book on the principles of being a mediocre person. How about a biography of the lives of average people?
Maybe you can find one in the
lives of great failures? I really do not
think you will find any of those in any library. Why?
Because no one wants to know about people who do nothing to be
remembered for. We want to learn the principles of success and achievement. We seek out the lives of people who have done
extraordinary things and achieved greatness in their lifetime. We look for
champions.
What about your life? Will people remember you were even on this
planet once you are gone? You do not
have to be a world leader or have a book written about you to be remembered,
you just must make a difference. Think
back in your life, do you remember a person who is no longer here who made a
difference in your life? They did
something special and meaningful for you and you will always remember who they
are. I have many and I remember them
often and with great affection.
In talking to success-minded
people, I often end with telling folks to show the five key treats of a
success-minded person: Be your best, Love God, Have good manners, Discover the
unknown, and Change your world. Allow me
to show you how these five simple qualities can keep you in the minds and
hearts of many for years to come.
"The only yardstick for success our society has is being a
champion.
No one remembers anything else."
- John Madden

Be Your Best
To be your best should be the
quest for all success-minded people.
This does not mean - you are the best (although that can happen) - it
means to do YOUR best. To do all jobs with excellence. Keep your standards high and never do less
than your best. you will never be
perfect, but remember the words of legendary coach, Vince Lombardi who said,
"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch
excellence."
Love God
No one can achieve true success
in life if their moral compass is out of whack.
To love God is to follow the principles He has given us to live life
by. These are not hard, unpleasant rules
that keep us from having fun or enjoying life.
The truth is they are freeing, and allow us to become all we can be
without the burdens that dishonesty and
immorality brings.
Have Good Manners
"Friends and good manners
will carry you where money won't go,"
said American poet, Margaret Walker.
Success-minded people know very well that nothing will open more doors,
present you with more opportunities, and make you more friends than will good
manners. Good manners are not using the
right fork but in how you treat others.
Manners are nothing less than showing true respect and consideration for
everyone, all the time.
Discover the Unknown
The desire to be successful
develops a curious mind. Do not be one
who seeks meaningless things like money, power or position. These come and go quickly in all our
lives. Seek for the unknown. Have a spirit of adventure and take risks
that lead to discovery. There are many
wonders out there yet to be discovered, why not discover them?
Change Your World
This seems like a big order, but
really, all great change throughout history has started by one person. Whether that be a great political movement, a
scientific discovery or an invention that changes how we live, some "one" had to discover and
develop it. I believe that we all have
the potential for greatness. Not all
will use their potential, but it is there.
Never waste it. The world needs
you!
