Don't Stop Now
Have you ever wanted
something to be over – to finish the task and get it done and out of the way? I
have many times. This is usually because we are doing something that is not in
our strength set or that is not directly leading us to the achievement of a
bigger goal. Those are tasks that need to be done, and there is nothing wrong
with wanting them done.
Success-minded people
know that when it comes to our dreams and the achievement of our life’s purpose
that the job is never done. We go from one goal to another. As long as we have
breath, we have something to do, to improve, or to conquer. I know that even success-minded
people get tired and have days we feel less driven than others. You know you
must go on and do what you need to. There is no stopping now. As NBA Coach
Jerry West said, “You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days
you feel good.”
“The toughest thing
about success is that you’ve got to keep on being a success. Talent is only a
starting point in business. You’ve got to keep working that talent.”

So what is the
secret of getting things done that you do not feel like doing? To be a success-minded
person, you must remember that the goal is not to finish the job; it is to achieve
the outcome. Success is not a destination that you arrive at, and that is it.
Success, real success in life, is an ongoing process that you work at every
day. You are always moving forward and still getting better. It means change
and not staying the same. Author and success expert Max DePree said, “We cannot
become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”
I know that it can
get hard, and we all get tired, but you cannot give in and surrender to
tiredness. Diplomat Robert Strauss had it right when he said, “Success is a
little like wrestling a gorilla. You don’t quit when you’re tired – you quit
when the gorilla is tired.” Success-minded people know what wrestling that
gorilla is like. But they also know what victory is like. They know that today
I may be tired, but tomorrow I may see a success that will recharge me to move
forward.
Life is filled with
ups and downs. But for the success-minded person, there are far more ups than
downs. That is because they have something they are working for, a dream that
is before them, and they will do all they can to achieve that dream. They feel
the call of God, and they know that when their task on earth is done, they will
rest. And the reward waiting for them is worth it all. The words they long to hear
are, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
“From everyone who
has been given much, much will be required;
and to whom they
entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.”
Luke 12:48
