No Escape Needed

"Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don't need to escape from." - Seth Godin

You really have to feel sorry for working people who spend most of their time looking forward to vacations and days off.  What a drag to face a job every day that you dislike so much, your whole life is based on escaping it.  Have you ever felt that way about your job?  I know that there are time we look forward to vacations to spend time with family and friends or just to have fun, but when it is so you can escape work, that is another story.  A sad story.

I am of the belief that no one should work at a job they hate.  I know all the excuses about not having anything else or that you have to work.  I agree that you must work and you must support yourself and your family.  However, you do not have to hate the work you do.  Opportunities surround us every day.  It is what you do with those opportunities that count.

There are three ways to deal with a job you hate.  Any one of these can change your work life into something that is productive, enjoyable and fulfilling.

1)  Change Your Job
If you hate the job you have, look for one you like.  If you allow others to dictate to you where you have to work you will never be happy.  Dictating is exactly what they do when they tell you the job market is too bad and there are no jobs.  Yes the market is bad, but there are jobs to be had.  The first thing you have to do is decide what you want to do.  If you dislike the job you have, what kind of a job will make you happy?  Get out there and do what it takes to get that job and work hard at it.

2)  Create Your Job
If you cannot find a job you like, create one.  Go into business for yourself.  Is that hard to do?  Yes, but everything worthwhile is hard to do.  It happens all the time, so why not for you.  Know what you want; research what you need to do to get it; and start doing what is necessary to make it happen.

3)  Change Your Attitude About Your Job
This is really the key to the happiness of most people.  It is not the job that is bad, it is their attitude.  These people will not be happy at any job.  Changing your attitude is the surest and easiest way to find happiness in the work place.  Sit down and write out the answer to this question: What is great about my job?  Make a list and focus on that.  Be grateful that you have a job and that you are able to work.  A positive attitude will do more for changing your work experience than anything else you can do.  It is like always being on vacation.
