Setting Family Goals

The following article is from the book, Getting Personal: All You Have is Now: How Your Approach to the World Determines Your Destiny by author and speaker, John Patrick Hickey.  To read more from John Patrick Hickey or to get his books, training and book him to speak to your church, business or group, visit our website at www.johnpatrickhickey.com.

George Bernard Shaw said, “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” There are no relationships that are more important to your success than those in your own family. If they are good and your family is happy, all of life is good and happy. If family relationships are stressed and broken, all of life is stressed and broken. Just as a happy family can be heaven on earth, an unhappy family can be hell.

Here is the good news: you can control the happiness in your family. I know I have said many times that you cannot control other people and I am not implying that you can fix broken family members. What I am saying is that you can control yourself and how you respond to your family. If you are positive and encouraging to your family, they will respond in kind.

Family goals are things like:

Build a better life for my family
Do more activities together
Encourage and help my family to be their best

Most family goals are not self-focused but are directed to the betterment of others; not forcing our vision on our family but rather finding ways we can make our family stronger and happier. Your family goals will work with the other goals to help us achieve success. Zig Ziglar said, “People who have good relationships at home are more effective in the marketplace.”

There are many who are single and will say they have no family. We all have family. You may not live with your family but you can still work at healthy relationships with them. This area of goal setting can also be used to improve relationships with friends and others to whom we are close.
Personal development and the achievement of your dream will not happen on its own. It takes action and that action has to happen now. Click on the Free Membership button in the side bar and start your journey to achievement today!
