VOTE!!

Every election cycle we hear, “This is the most important election of our lifetime.” We can always make the argument that every election is the most important. On the not so bright side, always saying that we are at the crossroads of the world as we know it is a bit like crying wolf. Politicians make their promises, declare that things are as bad as they can get and hope for an election in their favor. These same politicians, after they have won their seat, forget their promises. Nothing changes and we hear the same call for change the next election.

It is this reason few people tend to vote, especially in mid-term elections. American people are smart. We know all too well the bag of goods many politicians are handing us. Sadly, our way of dealing with it is not to vote at all. This is never the right decision. Giving up your right to choose your leaders is allowing others to choose your leaders for you. That is a dangerous choice.

"Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
(1882-1945)
32nd U.S. President

We, as Americans, also understand that this election is a bit different than those before it. In my lifetime, I have never known one party resort to bullying and violence as we have seen during this election. The left in this country has taken to threats and acts of violence as well as intimidating the general public. None of the political leaders on the left have spoken out against this or condemn it in any way. They have in fact encouraged it or, by their silence, approved of it.

I know the quick answer to this is to accuse both the left and the right for this type of bad behavior. Yet, the right, guilty of their own sins, have not taken this path of violence and intimidation of others. This tactic belongs to the left and they own it.

My desire here is not to encourage you to vote in one way or the other. I am expressing my own opinion here. Voting is a responsibility we all have as Americans and one we must never take for granted. My fear is that some good people will not vote due to the fear of retaliation. That my friends is bullying and must not be tolerated. Not to vote is to allow bullies to have their way.

The former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, William E. Simon (1927-2000) once said, “Bad politicians are sent to Washington by good people who don’t vote.” That is exactly how some of these very bad politicians get there. People do not think for a minute that they are the best people for the job. Many are elected with votes of only a fraction of the people in their district. For whatever reason, good people did not vote to keep them out of office.

Let’s make our voice heard this election. Let the bullies of this nation know that they will not intimidate or force us to their low level of politics. We stand strong and do what Americans have done since the founding of this great nation. We will choose leaders that are good, honest and who will work to make America great in every way. We will not stand for mob rule and the corruption that has plagued us too long in our capital. We will be Americans and we will vote!
