Living Limitless

Success-minded people are those who understand the principals of limits. There are times when limitations serve us and those where they restrict us. Example: freedom does not mean that you can do anything you wish. Justice, honor, and morality set limits on behavior. This is a good thing that keeps wicked and immoral people from doing significant damage to the rest of society. Author Terry Pratchett rightly said, “Freedom without limits is just a word.” Or, as writer Elbert Hubbard said, “Responsibility is the price of freedom.”

There is also another side to limits, which is in the area of thinking, creating, and dreaming. I think former President Ronald Reagan put it best when he said, “There are no great limits to growth because there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.” When it comes to your God-given ability to dream and create, the only limits are those you set. English philosopher Francis Bacon said, “God has placed no limits to the exercise of the intellect He has given us on this side of the grave.”

“The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

1882-1945

32nd U.S. President

Think about this: If there was no limit to what you could think up, what would you try to do? Removing the limitations we have set on our imagination is like getting a free travel pass to anywhere in the world. It may be hard to grasp right now, but think about it, let the ideas flow, and you will be amazed at what you start to think about.

This causes me to think about Joshua in Scripture. In the first chapter of the book of Joshua, you see him in the promised land. Moses, who Joshua served for many years and was mentored by, is dead. What does God tell Joshua? “Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.” (V: 5). Now think as if you were Joshua. You saw Moses do everything from parting the sea to getting water out of a rock. Now, all that power is with you. No limits there. Think of what he must have felt.

God has that kind of freedom for you as well. Not freedom from responsibility, but freedom from limits. How have your self-imposed limitations stopped you? Open the door, find new freedom, and follow the path God has set for you. There is great power there. I think of what actor Vincent Price said, “A man who limits his interests, limits his life.” Success-minded people can live without limits. They can dream and do wonderful things.

“What the wicked fears will come upon him, and the desire of the righteous will be granted.”

Proverbs 10:24
