You May Be Right There
"Never give up,
for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn."
- Harriet Beecher Stowe
(1811-1896)
American Author
If there is
anything success-minded people know it is the feeling of wanting to give
up. I know we talk a lot about never
giving up and staying the course. We
know all too well the principle of perseverance. Success comes to those who stay with it and do
not quit. Having said that, and
believing all that, there is still the reality that even the most successful
among us have times they just want to throw in the towel and give up.
There is no shame in admitting
that you are tied and have reach the end of what you know and what you can
do. I believe that we do ourselves an
injustice when we try to act like we never want to give up. The goal is never to not want to give up, it
is not giving up even when you want to.
Here are a few things that you
can do when you reach that point of wanting to give up and let the dream go.
Take time to rekindle the fire of desire
Take time to sit down and
remember why you are pursuing the dream in the first place. Think about what this means to you and what
it will mean when you have achieved the goal.
It only takes a small spark to rekindle the fire that pushed you on.
Remember just how close you are
None of us can see into the future. Who knows if you are right at the door of
achievement or still a bit off. What you
do know is that you are closer today than you have ever been before. To turn back now may be quitting right before
you succeed. Keep the hope alive and go
just a bit farther.
Take one day at a time
Do not be worried about tomorrow
or keep thinking of what should be happening.
If you are doing your best today, that is all that matters. Tomorrow will come when it does. If you have done all you need to today, when
tomorrow comes you will be ready for it and you will move forward.
Keep your eyes on the prize
Never, not for a moment, take
your eyes off the goal you are trying to achieve. Think about it. Keep pictures around that remind you of the
goal. Think about how great it will be
when you have achieved the goal and you can move on to something even
greater. As long as you keep the first
thing first, you will never quit, and even more, you will achieve.
