Keeping Accounts in Order
It was known as “Miracle on the
Hudson”. On January 15, 2009, US Airways
flight 1549, made an emergency landing on the Hudson River of New York City
after multiple bird strikes cause the engines to fail. All 155 passengers and crew survived that day
due to the quick thinking and skill of the plane’s Captain, Chelsey “Sully”
Sullenberger. Rather than crashing the
plain, Sullenberger was able to land the plane on the water where all occupants
were able to get out on the wings and be rescued by watercraft in the area.
That day, Sullenberger and his crew
were celebrated as heroes. Captain
Sullenberger said later, “One way of looking at this might be that for 42
years, I’ve been making small, regular deposits into this bank of experience,
education and training. And on that day
the balance was sufficient so that I could make a very large withdrawal.”
Here is a lesson for every
success-minded person who is looking to surpass your own dreams and achieve
real greatness. We all have that account
in the bank of experience, education and training. Each and every day you experience something
new that one day just might be the very information you need. Success-minded people must always remember
that not one moment of our life is wasted.
Each person you meet, every experience you have is there to help you on
your journey to achievement.
Average people seek to finish their
learning. They get the degree they seek
or finish a class or training and they rejoice to be done at last. Success-minded people know that the learning
never stops. They are more classes to take,
books to read and things to learn.
Education is a lifelong pursuit and prepares us for whatever the future
may hold. As the great 19th
century English scientist, Thomas Huxley advised, “Try to learn something about
everything and everything about something.”
Just as our education never stops,
nor does our training. Those who seek to
be great at what they do know that they must always be improving and learning
new skills. No one is perfect and no one
knows it all. The foolish person who
believes they know all they need to about what they do will never achieve real
greatness and most will never see success.
Success-minded people understand that there is a better way to do what
they do. It does not matter if they are
teaching school, running a business, building a house or writing a book. Learning new skills keeps us fresh and our
skills at their best.
Want to be ready for anything? Want to know that when destiny calls, you
have what it takes to respond? Build up
those accounts each and every day of your life.
That way, when the hour comes, you too can know you have a sufficient
balance to make a very large withdrawal.
