"It is easy to sit up and take notice.  What is difficult is getting up and taking action."
- Honore' de Balzac
(1799-1850) Writer / Playwright

There are two groups of business people in this world.  There are those who like life to be easy and orderly, and those who are willing to shake things up to get them going.  Those who like to plan and prepare, and those who do and move forward.  Those who notice that things are happening and those who make things happen.

Those who notice are the ones who can tell you every day what is going on in the news or where the stock market is heading.  They are well read and they know just what should be done.  The problem is, they tend not to do it.

Those who get things done may not know all the details of what is going on in the world, but they do know there stuff.  They are the ones who know the goal and go right for it.  Yes they make some mistakes along the way, but they get things done.  "A person who never made a mistake," Albert Einstein said, "never tried anything new."

Success-minded people need to be a member of the "do something" group.  It is good to know what is going on in the world, and we must be prepared and strategic about what we do, however, when that is all we do, we do far too little.  Preparation that is not followed by action is just a waste of time.  It is more likely for the person who carelessly plunges into action to succeed than for the person who has prepared a doctoral thesis and does nothing with it.

One of the myths of higher education has been that if you get a degree you will get the career to go with it.  Another is that the more education you have the better off you will be.  Both have been proven wrong over and over again.  People with an arm full of degrees are in unemployment lines or working at a fast food place.  Those who made a career at being educated have become useless and know nothing about life in the real world.

There is no success without action.  I believe in education and encourage people to get as much as they can, however, be educated in things you will use and need.  No one cares how much you have stuffed into your brain if it is of no use to you.  You must make things happen to achieve success.  No one became successful just for what they knew, it is always for what they do.

The time has come for action.  If you are to achieve your dreams and fulfill your purpose in life, you have got to get going and make it happen.  No one will do it for you and all the knowledge in the world will not cause things to happen.  Take action and do it today - right now.  You will find that more will happen in an hour's worth of action than a year's worth of noticing what others are doing.
