Mediocre Never Tastes Good

"It is a wretched taste to be gratified with mediocrity when the excellent lies before us."
- Isaac D'Israeli
(1766-1848) British Writer

Do you set your schedule to go to dinner at a restaurant that a friend told you was just mediocre?  Do you run out to buy a book because the reviews said it was okay but nothing special?  Will you pay someone to work on your house when you know that they can only do a so-so job at best?  The answer to all these questions is a resounding NO!  The fact is, as Dr. John Maxwell so clearly put it, "Nobody pays for mediocre."

We can all say Amen! to this, however, we settle for our own mediocre every day.  People often go to work and do just as much as they have to at their jobs.  They do their job, do it as they are expected to, but nothing more.  What make this worse is that they do not feel bad about that and act totally justified when it is brought to their attention.

Success-minded people know that whatever you do should be done to the best of your abilities and nothing less.  Successful people do not think in terms of, "What am I paid to do" they always do far more than what they are paid for.  That is why they end up getting paid far more than what they do.  This is the secret of success that people always are looking for.

It does not matter what your job is or for whom you work.  Success-minded people understand that to be successful it always means giving your all.  Napoleon Hill, author of the classic, Think And Grow Rich, refers to this as going the Extra Mile.  It is when you know what is expected of you and you purposely give more than expected.  The person who does more will always be in demand, always find a good job and will always end up successful.

Never settle for mediocrity in your life.  Never get it or give it.  Expect the best from others and be sure to give them your best.  It is only a short step from mediocrity to success or failure.  Why not move forward that short step and be excellent in all you do.  Anyone can be mediocre, but you are not anyone.  You are a success-minded person and therefore you are excellence in action.
