"Recession is when a neighbor loses his job.  Depression is when you lose yours."
- Ronald Reagan
(1911-2004) Former U.S. President

It is an odd thing, but studies have shown that people tend to think that troubles happen to the other guy more than they do themselves.  If we see problems touching the lives of our neighbors or people elsewhere in the country, we may complain or point it out, but we do not see it as urgent.  When that problem hits us and our families, we hit the streets and bang on the doors to raise attention to it.  When problems hit home it suddenly becomes urgent.

Think of what could happen if we started to see the positive events in our lives in the same way.  If we began to understand that the good things that happen to others can happen to us.  We too can see success, happiness and fulfillment for our lives and the lives of the people we love and care for.  Do you think we would respond to positive things differently?

Many people know, or at least somewhat understand, that hard work, dedication and perseverance lead to the successful achievement of a dream.  What happens is that they see that as happening to the other guy.  That when others do all they can to achieve their goals they win.  The truth is, it is not just the other guy, it's you!

We live in a wonderful country where we still can achieve anything we are willing to work hard for.  People succeed and fulfill dreams every day.  Yet we are told, sometimes by our own leaders, that there is some advantage that successful people have that others do not.  What we need to be told is, "Yes, you too can succeed and achieve your goals if you work hard like these people do."  No one has anything just handed to them, nor should they.

Success-minded people understand that it is not just trouble that is at the door, it is success.  The other guy is not to be pitied but followed.  Those who suffer loss can also enjoy gain.  Those who fail can succeed.  Those who give up can conquer.  It is all up to you and how you choose to see the live you live.  It is never easy but then, anything worthwhile never is.  Hard work and a willingness to keep going is the key to have everything you ever wanted.
