The Same Old Stuff

"There are no new fundamentals.  You've got to be a little suspicious of someone who says, 'I've got a new fundamental.'  That's like someone inviting you to tour a factory where they are manufacturing antiques."
- Jim Rohn
(1930-2009) Author / Speaker

I love new things.  New ideas and new decisions.  I love it when people set off on new journeys and set new goals.  In all the years I have spent studying goal setting and personal achievement I have discovered this important truth.  There are no new fundamentals.

The path to success is a well worn path.  Many have traveled it through the years and all arrived at the same destination - success.  There are millions of books written on how to set and achieve goals.  You can find thousands of seminars, workshops and recorded programs on the same subjects.  In each you will find different information and ways to use the information, however, what you will also find is that they are all based on the same principles for success.

Does this mean that you do not need to read anything new or listen to the ideas from new folks on the horizon?  Not at all.  We are all different people and therefore we relate to different things and learn in different ways.  We also live in different times with new and greater tools at our disposal.  We are greatly blessed to have wonderful teachers who, while teaching the same fundamentals, teach them in different ways.  If you do not get what you need fully from one you can get from another because they speak to the way you learn.

This also means that there is great wealth in the works of success-minded people of the past as well as those who will yet come to us.  I have learned lasting principles of success from Franklin, Lincoln, Carnegie and Hill.  I have also learn wonderful and helpful things from Maxwell, Rohn, Ziglar and Dickerson.  Each have something to say that makes the age old fundamentals clearer and easier to apply to my life.

On your journey to achievement remember that there is more to learn than you have time or brain power to learn it.  Be open to all the information you can find and apply the techniques that these leaders suggest.  Just be sure to also remember that there is nothings new or that has not been said before.  Be leery of anyone who tries to sell you a new fundamental or who tells you that they have discovered new principles of success.  They will also want to sell you some snake oil to wash it down with.
