Better to Achieve Success Than Recognition

"The way to get things done is not to mind who gets the credit for doing them."
- Benjamin Jowett
(1817-1893) British Educator

There are few road blocks to success greater than that of the desire for recognition.  We want to be a part of something great, but we want to be recognized for our achievement more than we want the achievement.  This drive to be seen as great is as old as mankind itself.  People throughout history have cheated, lied and done great harm just so they can be seen as the one who accomplished something.  It is a problem that we see all the time, even today.

There are some things to keep in mind when you are working toward success.

There will always be those who steal the glory
We have all been part of a project or have had an idea that ended up being high jacked by someone else.  It is not a good feeling at all when you have worked hard and long to make something a success and then someone (usually someone who has the power but did not do the work) takes all the credit for them self.  However, success-minded people know that these kind of people do not last long.  They are unable to hold their own when the pressure is on.  The important thing is that you were responsible for a success and that alone makes you a more desirable person.

Do not be one of those people
It is easy, when you are the leader of a project, to take the credit when you have achieved your goals.  People always look to the leader and give them the praise when something has been accomplished.  However, as a success-minded leader you know that success never comes by the efforts of one person.  Be the leader who give all the credit to the team and never to yourself.  Being a person of integrity is more important than being seen as someone who achieved on their own.  Always remember that a great leader give all the credit for success away and holds all the blame for failure to them self.

Success is all about achievement
If you have achieved a goal, you have succeeded, no matter if anyone knows it or not.  Success is all about achieving what you set out to do.  If someone tries to steal the credit for that, who cares?  You know, and they know, you are the one who succeeded.  This knowledge will move you to bigger and better things in the future.  People who steal credit never get started.  People who succeed never stop.
