Good Enough is Never Good Enough
" It's been said
that Americans can have anything they want.
The trouble is, most don't know what they want, and so they drift
through life taking circumstances as they come and settle for 'good enough'."
- Earl Nightingale

For years, thousands
of people turn to Public Radio on Saturday evenings to listen to Garrison Keillor's
A Prairie Home Companion. The highlight
of each program is Keillor's storied on "the news from Lake
Wobegon". This fictional town in
central Minnesota filled with wonderful characters has become very real to many
who can't wait to hear what the town folks are up to. One thing the people of this town have in
common is that they have come to accept life that is just good enough, not
great, not the best, but "pretty darn good".
Where the stories of
Garrison Keillor are funny and light hearted, the reality is too
many of the people in this country have come to accept the very same life. We have gone from being an exceptional people
to a mediocre people. We stopped working
to be the best and come to believe we should never be better than the lowest
achiever. This is not just sad, it is tragic.
Every human was created
for greatness. I believe that
with all my heart. You have what Zig
Ziglar called the "seeds of greatness inside you." Extraordinary people are a rare thing these
days and the truth is, they are all around us. Ordinary people, like you and me, can do
extraordinary things if we choose to.
Too often people are
told they must not achieve.
It is seen as too bold, ego trips and unfair. We are pushed down that no one wins so no one
looses. But the fact is, when no one
wins, everyone loses. You were made to
be a winner. You were created with a
dream, a purpose, that will make a difference in this world. You, yes you my friend, are meant to be great
and to achieve wonderful things.
Never allow others to
steal your dream. It does not
matter who they are, what they say or how they attack you. Stand strong and be all you were meant to
be. You can be extraordinary and make a
difference. In fact, I am depending on
you to do just that.
