More Than Okay
In a children’s book,
I wrote back in 2002 called, A Storyteller’s Book of Tales, there is a
story called Charlie Was Just Okay. It is about a boy who wanted to be anything
other than what he was. He was just okay. He wasn’t a bad kid but wasn’t
perfect either. He wasn’t tall, but he wasn’t short, he wasn’t big but he
wasn’t small, he was just okay. After fancying himself an explorer, rock star,
or a superhero, he came to understand from a friend that “being Charlie” was
very special all in itself.
Have you wanted to be something you are not? Have you dreamed that things
could be different if you were smarter, more prosperous, wiser or better
looking? Success-minded people have all had moments of wanting to be special. Many
of us know that desire to be excellent and stand out from the crowd. The desire
to be our best is one of the things that make up a success-minded person.
Another thing that makes us success-minded is that we realize that we are
indeed special and created to be who we are for a reason.

average. Let your heart soar as high as
it will.”

God never created you to be average or just to get by. He created you for
a purpose, a very important purpose. You play an important role in God’s great
plan for this world. You cannot fulfill that plan until you can be yourself.
Success-minded people know that it is God’s will for them to be all that they
can be. Speaker and author Zig Ziglar always said that God placed in you the
seeds of greatness. It is up to you to nurture and care for that seed so you
grow into all you were intended to become. Ziglar said, “You were born to win,
but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win and expect to win.”
As you move forward in life “just being: Your Name Here,” remember
that you are more than okay, more than average. You are a success-minded person
and there is greatness in you. You never can tell, you may be the one God has
chosen to change the whole program. The Scriptures tell us in the book of
Jeremiah the 29th chapter that God said, “I know the plans I have
for you.” He has it planned out and that plan is for you to succeed. You may
not know all that God has in store for you, but He does. He is never caught off
guard. You can trust Him and believe that He made you for something far better
than just being okay.
“For I know the
plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for
calamity to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
