Can You Really Have it All?

" You can have anything you want in life, you just can't have everything you want."
- Peter McWilliams
(1949-2000) Author

Success-minded people believe that you can have and be anything you want.  I, being a success-minded person, believe that too.  We were created to achieve and to be great.  Every human on the planet has the potential to be extraordinary.  However, there is a condition that must be faced, you can have and be anything you want, but you cannot have and be everything you want - why?  Because it was never meant to be.

We humans are fickle beings.  Today we want to be a businessperson and tomorrow we want to be a doctor.  Today we want to live a simple and peaceful life and tomorrow we want to be rich and living the high life.  Nothing is wrong with either of those choices, you just cannot have them both.  This is why it is so important to set a clear and specific goal for your life.

It is true that you can have whatever you want in life, IF, you are willing to do what it takes to achieve it.  You cannot choose to be a lawyer and also choose not to go to college.  If you want to practice law you must study law.  You must be willing to invest the hours and hard work it takes to prepare and pass the bar exam.  If you are unwilling to pay the price you will never achieve the reward.  It is really that simple.

Another reality of getting whatever you want is that you have to be willing to give in order to get.  Author Zig Ziglar has a famous quote that he said again and again.  I keep it in my journal and read it often.  Why?  Because in it is the key to all success in every area of life.  "You can have anything in life that you want," Ziglar said, "if you only help enough other people get what they want."  Read this again, in fact, write it down so you can absorb the truth here.  It is really a profound statement.  If you want to achieve your dream you have to help others achieve their dream.

Do not mistake the passing desires of life to define your dreams.  You have a purpose that you were created for.  Find that and you will find the key to success, happiness and fulfillment.  All the other stuff changes and passes from day to day, but your dream has always been with you and will always be with you.  The reason for that?  Because it is you.
