The Three Great Choices

" We are not animals.  We are not a product of what has happened to us in our past.
We have the power of choice."
- Stephen Covey
(1932-2012) Author/Speaker

The greatest power given to man is the power of choice.  No one can do it for you and none can take it from you.  You choose to be happy and fulfilled or to be broken and empty.  Others may be able to control your surroundings and circumstances, but they can never control how you react to them.  You make the choices of how you feel, what you think and what you believe.  Psychologist and holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl said, " Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

Sadly, far too many people give their choices away.  They give them to people who would control and manipulate them.  They give them to circumstances that would say they are losers or they are victims.  In any case, they still choose because they must choose to give their choice to other.  Choice can never be taken away.

Success-minded people know they have the power of choice and they use it wisely and protect it from those who would try to steal it from them.  I would like to share three areas that we can and must choose to keep in our life.  Again, this choice is yours to make if you only believe you can.

Choice #1.  Choose to succeed
Success-minded people come to realize that they cannot wish to succeed, they cannot hope to succeed, they must choose to succeed.  Once the decision is made it does not have to be made again.  You have it settled and down.  All that remains to be done is to find the course to take, the map to follow and the path before you.  It is only how you will succeed, not if.

Choice #2.  Choose to excel
Ordinary people choose to do what they need to in order to get by.  The choose to do as much as they can with the least amount of effort.  Extraordinary people choose to excel.  They choose to be excellent in all they do and to never settle for anything less.  They choose to work hard, stay with it and never quite.  That is what makes them extraordinary.  The amazing thing is that both have the same power - the power of choice.  The difference is not in ability or talent, but in the choice they make.

Choice #3.  Choose to make a difference
Why choose to just make it through life with little effort or fan-fare, when you can choose to put a ding in the universe?  Success-minded people know that they only make this trip once and they plan to leave their mark when they are done.  That choice means to strive for greatness and to do what others will not do.  These are the dreamers who do not wish their dreams come true, they go after them and make them come true.  It is all in what you choose to do.  The choice is yours!
